The Nursery

Bareroot Botanicals is a nursery and herb farm based in north county Sligo which specialises in medicinal plants from around the world. It is owned and ran by Iona Herbal Herbalists Ross Hennessy and Marina Kesso. They nursery was established three years ago to provide other herbalists around the country with plants and to inspire them to reconnect with growing your own plant medicines. The Nursery is a source garden for anyone looking for heirloom varieties of medicinal plants which are grown for their high phytochemical content. Medicinal plants have been with us since the beginning of time and by encouraging people to repopulate their gardens or public grounds with these plants, will keep the knowledge of herbal medicine alive in communities.

Workshops and courses are ran on the farm to teach people how to grow and safely use herbal medicines. The nursery hosts 140 different herbs and over 200 growing on the farm which Ross and Marina process on site. We process our herbs into dried stock for teas, tinctures, glycerites, vinegars, oils, creams, ointments and into dried stock for teas for use in their herbal medicine clinical practice.

How we deliver our plants to you.

We send out live plants in full growth without a pot but with some soil attached. The plant is carefully protected with straw and individually wrapped with plastic to keep moisture in the root ball. Your plants will be packed in the morning, collected and delivered to you next day. Please be sure you are home to receive your package.. We have found that plants can survive about 4 days with this method, but we prefer not to put them under that much stress so we do not send out orders on Thursday or Friday. We do not send out on these two days because of the unlikely event that you miss the courier the plants may be sitting in a hot storage depot over the weekend.

We charge €8 per box next day in Ireland 26 counties and you can get about 20 small plant per box.

UK deliveries its 48 hours, sent out Monday & Tuesday only, €25 per box
